Winterton - Central Drakensberg

Winterton is the gateway to the Champagne Valley

wintertonWinterton is the main village in the Central Drakensberg area and acts as a gateway to the Champagne Valley. Winterton is the main tourism service provider for the Champagne valley. Winterton is also a farming community with dairy, beef, maize and wheat being grown.

Winterton offers has a wide selection of amenities including supermarkets, butcheries, banks and petrol stations. Winterton is also home to the Winterton Street Carnival, an annual event in July when local artists, crafters, musicians and tourism related companies get together to showcase the village.

  • Winterton Museum is situated in Kerk Street, the Winterton museum has as it’s main theme the geology, fauna and flora of the Drakensberg. Secondary themes are the history of farms in the area, the bushmen and other early inhabitants of the area, and Anglo Boer War battles, which took place nearby.
